Myanmar (known as Birmania before the Military forces control), which is located in the south-east of Asia, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Since 45 years, it has suffered a terrible dictatorship ruled by the military forces that seized control after its independence from the British Empire in 1962. Now, the United States are against that "anti-democratic country". But, after that several questions arise from this statement. Is it the only purpose of USA for helping Birmania? Why did USA do anything before?.
Today, the mass media and also the Democratic countries has focused the attention on them, due to the strikes that have been carried out by the citizens and the Buddhiston the Birmanian streets. Citizens are protesting against the rising of the oil and Gas (considering that Birmania is the number 10 into the countries that possess Gas resources in the world), but the main cause of the strike is fighting against the fascist despotic Government ruled by the Military forces that have provoked poverty and intolerance. The Military forces in response of those strikes, have declared that all people that is on the streets will be put down even violently. Despite of the disapproving and inefficient way of governing Birmania, the Military forces have been supported by China (China is hardly against the Buddhism and also is interested in the natural Gas that exists in Birmania), which is one of the powerful countries in the world. Therefore, in spite of the China's comunist ideology, they don't mind intensifying economical agreements with authoritarian Goverments, such as Birmania, Sudan and Zimbawe.
It is difficult to understand why USA and the Western are now worried about the suffering of the Birmanian people, and not worried about India, which is also aothoritarian countries. If we see the that Mr. Bush hasn't got any kind of triumph by invading countries as Iraq in the struggle for ·promoting democracy", it would be a good chance to reach it. It is also important to appoint that China is a comunist country and has a strong control over the Asian authoritarian countries; therefore, USA is working for getting the economical resources.
This is a very critical period for the Birmanian people in Asia. Exactly as happened in recent times, the Buddhist (90% of the population) and general citizens are fighting for overthrowing the Military Regime imposed in their country. But, could it be possible taking into account that USA and European countries are worried about them not because of its anti democratic Government, but only because of its abundant natural resources?. Will it be the same case as Iraq or Afghanistan where USA and Russia invaded them by declaring them one of the countries belonging to the "axis of evil" and "anti-democratic country"?.
Azkatasuna.
